VinUni Kicks Off The Vietnam Industry Innovation Index (VIII)
On December 21, 2023, the Agile Innovation Center, VinUniversity officially launched the Vietnam Industry Innovation Index (VIII) development project. This event was organized under the guidance and professional sponsorship of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), with technical support from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and the Portulans Institute. This project marks the first of its kind in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, focusing on a comprehensive assessment of sectoral innovation capabilities.
Experts, scientists, and representatives performed the kick-off ceremony.
During the event, Assoc.Prof. Hoang Minh, Deputy Minister of MOST, emphasized that innovation serves as a crucial bridge between scientific research, technological development, and socio-economic growth. He expressed confidence that the collaboration between VinUni and international partners like the University of Oxford, along with the technical support of Prof. Soumitra Dutta, will contribute to building practical tools for managers, businesses, and policymakers to enhance productivity, improve competitiveness, and promote sustainable development.

Dr. Le Mai Lan, Chairwoman of VinUniversity Council, also affirmed that the VIII project is one of VinUni’s ambitious initiatives to fulfill its mission. She noted that the development of the Vietnam Industry Innovation Index will be a valuable tool for the government to make informed policy decisions, as well as for businesses to enhance their competitiveness and accelerate digital and green transitions.

Professor Soumitra Dutta, Dean of the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, known as the originator of the Global Innovation Index (GII), presented the preliminary results from the project’s feasibility study phase. He also emphasized the importance of assessing the innovation capabilities of various sectors in Vietnam, which will allow for the adjustment of policies and measures to improve productivity and competitiveness.
