Industry Innovation Workshop Series: Expert Consultation Panel
On July 3rd, 2024, VinUni hosted a Industry Innovation Workshop on the Survey Questionnaire of the Vietnam Industry Innovation Index (VIIR), focusing on the unique characteristics of innovation across various sectors and the development of measurement tools for sectoral innovation in 2024. The event brought together leading experts, scholars, and representatives from 05 industries, including Food Processing; Textile and Leather Footwear; Pharmaceuticals; Tourism; and Healthcare to discuss the current trends and challenges in innovation, as well as detailed feedback for the questionnaire of the VIIR project.
Participants delved into the shortcomings in each industry and the pivotal roles of various stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem. Mr. Nguyen Vo Hung from the Institute of Science and Technology Strategy and Policy emphasized the necessity of collaboration among different actors to drive meaningful change, while Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thanh – Director of the New Technology Application and Transfer Center, Leather and Shoe Research Institute highlighted the pressing need for enhanced training and technology transfer in key sectors such as leather and footwear, which are crucial for Vietnam’s export economy. Other participants also discussed the problems existing in their industries, all of which indicated that innovation is a time-consuming and resource-intensive problem.
The discussion concluded with a brainstorming session, where experts exchanged ideas on the future of innovation in Vietnam. The consensus was clear: fostering a culture of innovation requires not only robust measurement tools but also a collaborative approach that includes academia, industry, and government.
Overall, the discussion served as a platform for constructive dialogue, paving the way for future initiatives aimed at enhancing innovation in Vietnam’s diverse sectors. The insights gained will be instrumental in shaping the development of effective measurement tools for sectoral innovation in the coming years.
