The Vietnam Corporate Innovation Index (VCII) project is initiated to assess the level of innovation among Vietnamese firms from the customer perspective, while also studying the factors influencing innovation and its impact on key metrics such as a firm’s relative attractiveness and customer loyalty. This pioneering project marks the first time in Vietnam that corporate innovation will be evaluated from the customer’s point of view, offering an independent and objective perspective on innovation, thereby helping firms improve their image and position in the eyes of customers.

The project is developed based on the Norwegian Innovation Index (NII) – a metric widely used in developed countries such as Norway, Denmark, the United States, Sweden, and Finland. However, to suit the unique context of Vietnam, this index will be adapted and expanded to create the Vietnam Social Innovation Index (VCII). VCII will not only be the first tool in Vietnam to measure innovation from the customer’s perspective but will also represent a breakthrough in providing deep insights into the causal relationship between corporate innovation and the outcomes achieved from the customer’s viewpoint.

In addition to its theoretical contributions, this project offers high practical value by generating detailed data and in-depth reports on the level of innovation among Vietnamese firms across selected industries. These findings will contribute to the development of new strategies, helping businesses enhance the customer experience, thereby improving customer perception of innovation and increasing the relative attractiveness of the firm in the marketplace.

Beyond the national scope, this project also opens opportunities for VinUni to connect with the international academic network on innovation, facilitating joint research with esteemed scholars worldwide. As a partner of the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), VinUni will not only have access to innovation data from other countries but also contribute to placing Vietnam on the global social innovation map, thereby affirming VinUni’s position in the international academic community.
